Learn, Live, Celebrate African History Every Day
I enjoyed a lovely day in lower Manhattan yesterday with my son touring Pace University, as he's been accepted there but we particularly enjoyed visiting the African Burial Grounds National Museum on Broadway. Although the actual outdoor interactive memorial was closed off, it was still accessible for viewing. Inside the actual museum were well structured exhibits, artifacts and even a lecture auditorium with a guest speaker. Although I must admit that looking at the reality of the plight of Black/African people, my people, always leaves me saddened and enraged. The story of America IS the story of the African Black Slave. That is our American story. That's it-- SLAVERY.
My son, now 18, a HS senior, said to me, "Mom, it seems weird that we recognize Black History and culture only 1 month out of the entire year--- So do we just forget about it on the other 11 months?" Good question son.--(btw his name is Justice).
I was inspired when creating some graphics for a client (who's not a POC) who ironically had the same thought in mind. We will never reach change in diversity, equality and inclusion if we selectively choose to acknowledge it only when scheduled. Black history happens EVERY day while we strive towards a society that will fully and truly practice accepting diverse people as equals and are willing to include us. #people#change#inclusion#university#culture#diversity#dei#deinfluencing#africanhistory#africanart#africanamericangraphicdesigner#africanburialgroundmuseumny#rodneyleonarchitect#blackhistoryeveryday
