First published piece of Artwork

Do you remember the very first time your artwork was published? Perhaps it was during a magazine gig that listed your name as an Art Director in the masthead. Maybe it was your very first art exhibit or art show. Well, I remember my very first piece that was printed in the Star-Ledger Newspaper in Newark, NJ circa 1987. It was a freelance gig. I was hired as a Mechanical Artist (aka paste-up artist) at the time, (desktop publishing had not be conceived yet). I remember being asked to illustrate a piece of artwork for the garden section of the newspaper, something regarding flowers, like tulips and roses— a big difference for the routine duties of waxing, cutting, T-square and triangle or velox halftoning images for mechanical boards. The adrenaline rushed through me from the excitement of the opportunity and the challenge of conceptualizing, drawing and getting editor's approval was ON, as I only had 45 minutes to complete it and submit it! Here's what I did... uh-'em, 2 pieces!
